The Theory of Everything
Overall Score

Video/DVD
by Blue Yonder Pictures / David De Vos
Starring David De Vos, Victor Lundin
Story : (from website)
Does God exist? Does science prove God's existence or provide more reasons to doubt?
Doug Holloway (David de Vos), a family man on the verge of financial and marital ruin, embarks on a journey to find his birth father, Dr. Eugene Holland (Victor Lundin). Dr. Holland is on a mission of his own - to prove God's existence. His greatest challenge? Completing the quest before a degenerative brain disease (CJD) claims his ability to reason. Soon the two journeys become one as the men struggle together to rebuild their family and find new hope in God.
Technical Info:
Guns, gunfire (no real violence, no blood, no person is shot), characters drinking wine/champagne (not heavily), a few kissing scenes between married couple (a little heavier than I would like to see personally, but very minor compared to most movies/tv shows).
Angela's Take:
This movie seemed to come out of nowhere. I believe I saw a preview before The Ultimate Gift, however it may have been another movie, and the next thing I know, I see it at Blockbuster! I was intrigued by the idea of an actual "theory of everything" and was very curious to see how they would play it out. Even though this movie would fit more into the "drama" category, it was my sci-fi and apologistic (yes, I know...) tendencies that drew me to it.
As mentioned above, the story follows a Christian family in the middle of their own crisis. The husband, Doug, who was adopted after birth, is told that his birth father is requesting to see him, however his father has medical and mental problems that would require Doug to commit to being responsible for him. Doug agrees to meet his father, with the thoughts that he may obtain some financial help from his estate and soon becomes attached, reuniting the family.
Doug's father, Dr. Holland, is obsessed with finding the one key to the universe, "the theory of everything." He believes that if he can figure it out, he can know for sure that God exists.
I was very pleased at the multiple references directly to Jesus in this movie. The basics of Christian faith were included, that Jesus is the doorway to God, that we need to believe and that faith is important.
The movie is a little slow in some places as dramas tend to be, the only issue I had with the movie was actually very minor. The few kissing scenes between the married couple were just a little too heavy for me to have to witness. A little bit lighter and shorter would have been just perfect, but I do have to say that it would not keep me from owning or viewing this film again.
